A new generation of of young leaders: Skills for a better future
In today’s world, where technology and the business world are rapidly changing, it is crucial for students to possess all kinds of necessary knowledge and skills. The World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs 2023” report shows that the world is transforming at an unprecedented rate, and that among the ten most sought-after skills, the top five are soft skills, indicating a paradigm shift in the business world.
The Department of Industrial Engineering has recognized this need and, during the past semester, organized a series of visiting lectures that provided students with valuable insights, knowledge, and development of so-called “soft skills,” preparing them for a successful future in a dynamic digital age.
Dr. Vojin Rakić, a full professor and research advisor, director of the Center for Bioethical Studies and head of the International Chair of Bioethics for Europe, the World Medical Association (WMA) Cooperation Center, gave a lecture to students titled “Ethics and Information Technology.”

His lecture was provocative and challenging, raising key questions about the moral dilemmas in the world of technology. Students realized that technological progress is not only a matter of innovation but also a responsibility to society and the future. Dr. Rakić showed students how to make morally sound decisions in the digital age, emphasizing the importance of ethical principles in the development and application of various types of technology.
Dr. Stanislav Karapetrović, a full professor at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta in Canada, gave a lecture titled “STANdards of Quality.”

Dr. Karapetrović, with ease and expertise, explained the key aspects of achieving high quality in various industries, revealing the importance of a systemic and process-oriented approach to production and service delivery. Students enthusiastically absorbed this valuable knowledge and realized that quality management is not only desirable but also essential for success in the modern business world.
Mirko Gavrilović, a leading auditor for ISO standards at SGS, discussed the invaluable impact of standards on quality and efficiency in work through the lecture “The Application of Standards in Industry.”

Through practical examples and clear explanations, Mr. Gavrilović showed how standards enable consistency and improvement of business processes. Students understood that standards are not just “bureaucratic impositions,” but are a key tool for achieving success in business.
Dejan Ristanović, one of the first experts in Serbia in the field of computers, gave a lecture titled “Business Models in the Software Industry.” Mr. Ristanović shared his knowledge and experience, revealing the secrets of successful business in the dynamic world of software solutions. Students gained a clear picture of the key elements for creating and implementing profitable business models, and understood that innovation and adaptability are key to success in the rapidly changing digital age.

Thanks to these lectures, students have acquired valuable knowledge and skills that will enable them to successfully meet the challenges of the digital age and become leaders in their fields.
After acquiring knowledge in regular subjects and with guest lecturers like these, our students say they are skilled in analyzing ethical dilemmas, they understand the importance of standards, and they are ready to meet the competition through the development of innovative and profitable business models.
